Hi Daryl D, thought I would whet your appetite. Living in Cornwall could be compared to living in Camelot---we are so cut off from the rest of the UK, including not being able to receive cell-phone-calls in certain locations (including my house and garden!LOL)--and I can only receive four TV channels--but what a choice of programme they give me.!!!
My choice:- five films from now until midnight

Philadelphia Story with Katherine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart.
Murder in Three Acts by Agatha Christie, with Peter Ustiov and Tony Curtis
Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier with Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, George Sanders and Judith Anderson,
Look Whos Coming to Dinner with Spencer Tracy, Katherine Hepburn and Sidney Poitier
Arlington Road, with two of my favourite "modern" stars Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins and that under rated actress Joan Cusack.

In addition there are the two X Factor type programmes "Grease" and "Joseph" very good.
Two programmes on the Monarchy (Oliver Cromwell and King Charles I) and Offspring of Queen Victoria in the shape of three cousins at the beginning of the last Century, Prince George, Tsar Nicholas and Kaiser William embroiled in Global warfare and a family fued.
Add to this an excellent Docudrama on Du Maurier and a troll around Du Mauriers Cornwall and I still have to fit in The Weakest Link, Parkinson with Patrick Stewart and Gene Wilder and by no means least a much awaiting return of the young Chinese Pinanist Lang Lang (He plays at Carnegie Hall more often than the Royal Albert Hall --pity for us, he is brilliant).

During the whole of the evening the awful Eurovision Song Contest is playing on BBC1
urrgggh

So I shouldn't be here boasting about all these programmes on just 4 channels--should I?????

See you tomorrow !!! Kate

Oh and of course "Totally Blonde". :P

Thank you Dee, now we know

DarylD I have it on the very best advice that the film was called Under The Clock with Judy Garland and Robert Walker and it was directed by Vincent Minelli in 1945 -- now I wonder -- Was Judy married to him then??

I am surrounded by such clever people who always look out for me--thank you again Dee and DarylD.

DarylD, the plot thickens.
Dee has just told me that the film was called The Clock in the States and Under the clock
in the UK.
Robert Walker was actually married to Jennifer Jones at the time but she was about to leave him for Selznick.
Judy asked for Minelli to direct after he had directed her in Meet Me In St. Louis--and then they were married and lived happily ---for a short while anyway.

Talking of one of my favourites --Judy Garland

Was there a film called "Under The Clock"???
the male lead Robert (Walker(???)
He was also in "Strangers on a Train"

I'm very vague about it, but remember he was a Soldier in WWII and they were to meet under the clock

Localola --where are you---help me--I shan't sleep Katie/80 plus one (I'm in THAT mode again) can't remember my own name.!!!!

you know all this big classic movies are just incredible! everytime you see them they are always amazingly beautiful...and they all have a sort of grace that it's hard to find in nowdays movies. that's one of the reasons why i loved "pride and prejudice"

notting hill is the first that comes to my mind..but MOULIN ROUGE too is lovely, but THE BEST LOVE STORY EVER IS PRIDE AND PREJUDICE for me, and since the last film with keira knightley and matthew mc fadyen was superb..that movie is really in this list

Another one of mine and probably my very favorite is 'Splendor in the Grass' with Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty. They were young and so in love! They had so much love for each other that they couldn't express. She had to be a 'good girl'. Natalie Wood is probably my all-time favorite actress....she died way too young.

Hey Karen...I remember Camelot very well...even have the movie. Actually, I named my daughter after Guinevere. Her name is Jennifer which is a derivitive for Guinevere. I do believe he called her Jenny one in the movie....and yes, it is one of my very favorites, too.

I agree with those who wrote "The notebook": it's so romantic!! I love it too! Smile

I also like "Titanic" and "Pride and Prejudice" Smile
Buble'shoneybunny
I love "To Have or Have Not". Anyone seen that??
Daryl D
Kate... you are so right... When you mentioned Judy after I posted... gave myself a bit of a shake and I do remember her.

You just never know in the movie biz.... So sad. Robert Walker died so young.

I grew up wanting to be one of those "great ladies" on the screen. Had all kinds of fantasies about what life must be like.
So much illusion.

Ultimately, life is what we make it.

It is not a typical romantic movie but I like Bridget Jones and Pride and Prejudice (Marc Darcy (Colin Firth) is awsome :-))

Oh Goodness, I'm a HUGE movie buff and I've got quite a few "Favorites" when it comes to romantic movies...

When Harry Met Sally
Benny and Joon
Pride and Prejudice
Singin' in the Rain
Shallow Hal
Don Juan De Marco
....

just to name a few lol. One of my absolute favorite movies of all time would have to be The Pirate, a 1948 MGM Musical Starring Gene Kelly and Judy Garland, music written by Cole Porter. Anyone here seen it? Its kind of become a cult classic for die hard Judy or Gene fans.
