It was very cool though. A lot of performances including Nina Sky. (yes Pati

Amsterdam is a 25 min. drive from where I live!
Haha, ahw, it's sweet of your mom! 13 is young. Altough I already went out at the age of 13. My cous was 15. We always go out in Spain. But the waiters always look after us. They still do

I was just curious to see how many of you on here used to go see Michael perform at BABALU, in Vancouver. (not that I'm trying to get things back on topic, or anything!) (hee hee)

According to travel and Leisure magazine April 2005 issue, there's a Babalu in Minnesota!
Now that's new!
Though you may fly the Scottish Highlands
Or take a trip to some isle near Napoli
When you're whistlin’
"The Campbells Are Comin’"
Or hummin’ "The Isle of Capri"
Don't dream of anybody but me

Having quite recently received my copy of "Babalu", (very grateful to Wolf, hope he received my letter of thanks), can you tell me when Michael was actually performing there.
You say he performed there for a couple of years, was it late 90's, just approx years, trying to work out the order of the early albums, I did see somewhere his first album was recorded in 1996.
Hope you can help,

I started seeing Michael perform at Babalu in 1997, so it would have been '97 and '98 mostly.

Thank you very much for the info, I can just imagine how great it was, as the first time I saw Michael here in Australia, was at The Basement, which is a Jazz Club here in Sydney in 2003, it was a great venue because he was so close to the audience that he could actually just step off the stage (which he did) and had photographs taken, also to kiss an older lady who Michael said looked quite shocked after his "Rap" number, even though it was standing room only, it was a night I shall never forget.
He shall be here in two weeks, but only for a brief promotional trip, then not until September for a concert tour, boy we have to wait ages here in Australia.
Thank you again for the info,

Hi LC, The Basement sounds pretty cool, I think its really great when you first see Mb in these smaller venues, you can really appreciate being close
thanks for sharing, I wonder if BD was there?

Yes it was really a great venue much more intimate, I don't think BD would have been there as he is from Melbourne not Sydney, Michael did one show in Melbourne during that visit and two at The Basement, the Thursday was just for "The Media" and the Saturday night I was there, was completely sold out "Standing room Only".
A truly great night.

Yes we were very lucky to have seen Michael at this venue. There was someone filming that night, but I don't know if it was the ABC.
I do have a video of an interview which Richard Wilkins did with Michael at the Basement for The Today Show, I think it was recorded after the Thursday night show, and Richard presented Michael with his "Gold Record", and remember his album had only been on sale in Australia for about two & a half weeks, Richard said he had sold 35,000 copies, Michael said "Already, you mean my Mother bought that many copies" then he held it up to show the boys in the band and said "Hey boys look what we're doin'", such a lovely personality.
The Live at The Basement is usually on Tuesday nights on the ABC.
