Oh..Good to know that their parents still live in Burnaby. Since it's so convinent to get around these days, living in Burnaby is still very nice. Just like my parents that live in Delta.

Again, too bad that Buble doesn't perform there any more so we can see him that often like 10 years before. Have you seen Buble performing in BaBalu before? I wonder what it was like because I used to live in Toronto in 1997. I moved to Vancouver in 1998.

I've not been to Vancouver until last year, so no, have never been to Babalu.
I know it was a great place for the locals as you can read on Cleopatra's post.

Thanks Diane! I know that Cleopatra had met Bublé long long time ago before he became an international singer. Those times were probably very good. Cleopatra, how do you feel at that time seeing him. Was he like the way he is now?

Hi Diane,

It was lovely to hear from you again.

No, I didn't even try and speak with Michael or any of the family after the January show. I was with a bunch of my family, and we were all tired, and just wanted to go home. I'm glad you got to talk to Amber and Grandpa Mitch ! Just wait until you've seen Michael hundreds of times - they will still remember you. They never forget anyone who comes out and supports him, and they haven't lost an ounce of enthusiasm along the way, either ! It's a wonderful thing to see.

I, too, love the "old" music. When I was a little girl, I thought Dean Martin had the most beautiful voice, and oh, so handsome !!! I also like Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Darin etc., and loved Jo Stafford, Judy Garland. My parents always played the old records when I was little, so I got used to hearing " good " music - back at a time when people actually wrote lyrics that meant something, and melodies that pleased the ear. ( do I sound biased? :)

I saw Michael in the musical " Swing " both at the Arts Club Theatre on Granville Island when it first came out, and again at a big theatre in Surrey, on Halloween, I believe it was. At the Arts Club, I was fortunate enough to get seats almost front and centre, and we took my parents to it, as they had never seen Michael perform before. We all enjoyed the musical very much. It was kind of funny - the next time I saw Michael at Babalu, and he came up to greet me, I told him we'd gone to see his show, and he said to me, " I know, didn't you see me wink at you ? ". I didn't know if he'd seen us or not ( stage lights and all ) but he said " How could I have missed you guys, you were right near the front ? " . I had the opportunity to see the show again in Surrey with a good friend who does Arts and Entertainment reviews for a local paper. Once again, the show was great. ( I don't mind seeing something more than once if it's really good ! )

I hope you are having a lovely weekend, and I look forward to talking with you again soon.

Take care,

Cleopatra.

Hi Heather!
Hope your still around here, I'd love to hear from you again.

Was wondering if you finished your album.
Hope things are going very well for you~

Regards,
Diane

 Sorry about that false start Diane, just back on the Board after a Winter's absence.!!!!
(see You'll Never Know for an explanation)
All this retro stuff about Michael's early days reminded me that I have a single track of
Michael singing "Begin the Beginne", a present from a Member in 2005 I think,
but it is obviously much earlier than that and sounds as if it originated in a Show.
Does anyone out there know anymore about this track?
I don't have it on any of his pre-Warner CDs.

:D Hello Allen, thank you for your kind words, Nourjal and I first met in Belgium
he had travelled from France and I had come from England to see Michael.I'm getting very vague
about dates, but it was either 2004 or 2005???

How lucky you are to live in Vancouver, when I was younger, I loved to sail,
and would have loved to have had the chance of sailing around Vancouver Island.

Ah yes, sailing is quite popular and if you visit the Vancouver thread, you would
see lots of pics with private boats. Even sailing on Burrad Inlet or False Creek would be nice.

Good to hear that you two met in Belgium. How nice!

Well, hope to see you around more and take care!

Cheers,
Allen

Hi Kate!
Boy, it's been a really long time that we have written~

I so hope you are doing very well. I'm doing good here.

You asked about Begin the Beguin, I thought that Michael
had said this was from the musical he did early on and although
the name escapes me I'm thinking it's something Swing for the
title, darn I wish I could remember. So sorry ~ so, I haven't
really helped you but maybe this will spark you to know the
title ~~~~~oops, I do remember-- it was Forever Swing. Pretty
sure he sang that in that musical. The only other musical I remember
is Red Rock Diner and he could have sang it for that.

Since last I talked with you I have been to see Michael at
MSG in New York and it was sooo awesome! I do have the cd/dvd
just got it really. It's such a wonderful dvd. Captures Michael and the
band and his family just perfectly. Maybe you already have this though.
I felt so lucky to have been there. I get to relive this experience over and
over. I hope you do enjoy it if and when you get it.

I hope you have a marvelous day, hope to see you here
again.

Best Regards

:D

Why hello Diane, so good of you to remember me!. Circumstances have kept me away from the Forum for a very long time (or so it seems to me --I have missed being here).
You are so right about Begin the Beginne---Forever Swing---and from the tempo someone is dancing to it --could it be??---Debbie?????.
As you know he once sang "Stardust" in the early pre-Warner days and it was quite average (in my opinion) now with Naturally 7 it is out of this world--back to the 1940's/50's---wherever he is Haogy must be smiling!!
So, thinking along the same lines - I'd love to hear MB do Begin the Beginne again its a great Cole Porter number that only a few have picked up on--I'm even trying to remember if Sinatra ever sang it??? --I think Vic Damone did but then your namesake Diane (Dee) would know the answer to that one---where are you Dee????
Lovely to "talk" to you again. Kate

Hey Kate!
Lovely Sunday here I hope you had a lovely one as well~
I'm pretty sure Sinatra did sing Begin the Beguine. I agree Michael
would sound wonderful with this done his own way~ wouldn't it be great
if it was included in the new album? B) I know Michael hasn't put it on an
album yet like some others, like, Stardust~~so maybe he would still do this one.
What I want to hear is Baby You Got What It Takes. The original sung by
Dinah Washington and Brook Benton. I used to listen to that one at home as
my mom loved it so much as well as I. I really think we are in for a real treat
with this new album, you know Michael wants to make it special for everyone.

I'm so glad you are well now and do come back here and post as often as you are
able to. I always enjoyed your posts. Sometimes I don't post I just come here and
read everyone and it makes my day better~

Take care and hugs,
Diane

:D

Hello again Diane,

I am a long time fan of Dinah Washington and have most of her music. I have the one with Brook Benton,
However !!! the one I would love to hear Michael sing which she sings beautifully is "SAY IT ISN'T SO" I think I would melt !!
Do you know that one???
We are in the middle of the famous Wimbledon Tennis Tournament over here and the weather is VERY hot for the UK, but I guess the "stars" are used to playing in the States and Australia, so it shouldn't worry them too much.
Here in Cornwall we have a beautiful sea breeze to cool us down--did you know there is nothing between you and me in my garden but the Atlantic?--at least from my side of the Pond that is.
Have a great day. Kate
ps after all this time away I will need a week off to read up on The Daily Bublé--Bobby D is invaluable, what a Gem!!!
PPS, WILL HAVE TO BROWSE THROUGH MY SINATRA'S---SO MANY --I need a day off to do it.

Hi Kate

I'm here!!! Have just been reading this interesting post and, in answer to your query, Vic Damone did record Begin the Beguine. It is one of the tracks from a double CD recorded in 1997 by Vic Damone called "Greatest Love Songs of the Century". Frank Sinatra also recorded this track which is included on The Columbia Years 1943-1952. I also have a DVD of the film Broadway Melody of 1940 in which Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell perform the most brilliant tap dancing routine to this tune. I am in total agreement with both you and Diane and would love Michael to record this song again. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

I'm new to the board, and its fabulous to read all these wonderful moments and memories with Michael.

I saw Michael at the Grove last night and met some AWESOME fellow fans. We ended up spending the evening as a group and have made plans to all be at the Roxie on Thursday. One of those new friends mentioned Michael's first album called "Babalu" but I can't find it anywhere. Is there indeed a recording, or did I misunderstand him and what he meant was the club mentioned in these posts?

And please tell me Michael is a dancer, too. I've been swing dancing for years and years and know that I enjoy the music on so many levels when I listen to amazing artists like Michael, when I sing it myself, and when I dance it.
HEAVEN!!! If Michael dances, too, then I'm just going to sigh and faint at his feet! LOL

I know this reply is a little too late, but I found some of his songs from Babalu on Youtube. I didn't know what Babalu was until now. Lol. The name sounded funny... :P
