Cry Me A River THE Julie London song???

Did I read it right or am I dreaming? Did Michael really record Julie London's "Cry Me a River"?
I have a slew of Julie's records. I so remember her mellow and sexy voice. I have been a fan of hers for years.
I am so excited for the album to come out. Michael's and Miss Jones sexy rendition of "Baby You've Got What It Takes"
makes for spine tingling listening. I can't even guess what the rest will be like.
Way to go Michael!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well now the pattern seems to be emerging. At least we "oldies" can expect three "Standards" from the new CD---
Hopefully there will be more????
"Cry Me A River" a classic by Julie London
Haogy Carmichael's melodic"Stardust" ( I always think of it as two love songs in one)does anyone else remember the Nat King Cole very smooth version?
"You're Nobody" (till somebody loves you) has been sung many times--I really like MB singing this, but then I like him singing all of them.
My least fav is "Baby you've got what it takes" it was even my least fav of my Dinah Washington tracks.
Getting quite excited now ha ha

This song, along with "STARDUST" & "YOU'RE NOBODY....." have all the makings of a love album, but then again Michael usually sings about love
I love "I'M IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE" & wish MB would record it. Never cared for "YOU'VE GOT WHAT IT TAKES" it wasn't one of Dinah Washington's best songs, at least in my mind.
But Michael has also written some original songs , his are always beautiful bring it on I'm ready for Michael to vocally make love to me!!!

Glad you agree Betsy, we seem to be on the same wavelength--I wonder have you ever heard Dinah Washington's
"Say it isn't so" ????
I would love to hear MB sing that one, but then there are so many other Standards I would love to hear him sing too.
I just wonder when he will return to the UK?????---or Europe even, I've already seen him in Belgium, Paris, Norway
and best of all Holland, the Dutch are so very musical and totally appreciative (in my humble opinion of course !!)

It will be interesting to hear a male voice singing "CRY ME A RIVER" since it is ususally a sultry torch song sung by a woman. I've no doubt that Michael's version will senuous & sexy can't wait to hear it!
Dinah Washington was not my all time fav , Lena Horne, Nancy Wilson, she sang with George Shearing , Etta James & Ella Fitzgerald & Oh my god could I submit a list of standards I'd love to hear MB sing
Ok Mr. Buble I"m ready for you to vocally make love to me

I mean, Cry Me A River~ Classic~ I'll bet he knocks it outta the park~
Dinah Washington also recorded, "What A Difference A Day Makes".
I think I've always loved that rendition of hers. She had a sorta
gritty-salty voice and her diction was spot on. Usually gave me goosebumps
when she sang a bluesy balad. At any rate, I'm still glad
Michael chose the song "You've Got What It Takes" I can hear in the song
that he and Sharon J. had fun doing this~
Excited to hear "Haven't Met You Yet" ~ we are really getting the low-down here
on his new songs. I understood there would be two of his own on the new record~ I wonder
what the other title song is. It's ok, I really love the element of surprise where this
record is concerned. I don't have to know right away~~~ ok~~ I am anxious to know but
I don't have to know, ~~ya know!
I'm in agreement with you all that Julie London was soooo good too! Sultry-tone.

THINK MICHAEL WILL SOUND AWESOME SINGING THIS.
INTERESTING THAT IN THE CHRIS ISAACK HOUR INTERVIEW MICHAEL SAYS HE WAS MISQUOTED
ABOUT CURLING UP IN A BALL AND CRYING ALL DAY WHEN HE SPLIT UP WITH EMILY BUT LISTENING TO THE LYRICS OF THIS SONG MAYBE '' HE DOTH PROTEST TOO MUCH''.

I'm positive it's going to be unbelievable ........ sultry , senuous & smoldering as only Michael can be.
Sue, I agree MB doth protest too much.......could he still be crying over Emily?

I think we all agree that Michael puts a lot of his own experiences into a lyric--whether he is singing a Standard or
penning a new song.
I can quite believe that he was thinking of Emily when he recorded "Cry Me A River" I also believe he was thinking of Debbie when he co-wrote "Home" (but thats only my opinion)
Those who know me (like Diane) will be fed up with me for recommending the DVD "The Young Victoria" but I do urge you to rent it, Emily carries this film--she is a great actress and I just know she is going to go a long long way.
As for all those great artists you speak of Betsy-- couldn't agree more--how I love Nancy Wilson and all the others you speak of. One less well known singer is the late Shirley Horn, her rendition of "Here's to Life" always gets to me, (probably because I am an "oldie")
However, the one song I would love to hear MB sing on stage is "Let Me Love You Tonight" Sinatra made a very ordinary version of it, probably back in 1942 when he first started out. but the definitve version is by another lesser known jazz singer --Nellie Lutcher , IT GOES BACK TO 1949, but I am sure that someone could one day perhaps find it on the internet and then everyone would know why I wish Michael would sing it.
Well better finish for now

boy are we on the same wave length. I was born in 1942 so MB's standards are the songs I grew up on.
I'm going to google "LET ME LOVE YOU TONIGHT" and see what I can find.
thanks for recommending the "YOUNG VICTORIA" I've heard Emily is wonderful in movie . I agree she & Debbie were his 2 great loves so far!!!

OMG!!! I just listened to Frank Sinatra's recording of "LET ME LOVE YOU TONIGHT" he recorded it in 1945 the song is , well ...chills are still running up & down my spine
What a version Michael could deliver ! Words are beautiful
I'm now going to google Nellie Lutcher & listen to her version
Somehow Michael & David Foster have to listen to this song & record it.
Just listened to Nellie Lutcher's version gorgeous & perfect for MB ......Sinatra should be ashamed of his version it was less than ordinary
OMG Foster & Buble need to listen to this song & record it I'll think of some way to send them a message.

Hi Betsy, So glad you loved the Nellie Lutcher version of "Let me love you tonight" I think if MB sang it in concert you would have to scrape the young girls up off the floor!!!! we used to call it swooning in my day, (born 1926,) am 10 years younger than Sinatra who I saw twice in London round about the time you were born !!!LOL, also saw Judy a few times, and Sammy Davis etc etc, won't bore you with anymore.
Hope you have more luck with MB than I've had so far. I even gave him my copy of Lutcher but I guess it must have got lost amidst the other things in the Bus. Pity, I think it would be the greatest thing he has ever done.
If you enjoy the Standards, there is a DVD called De-Lovely, with Kevin Kline playing Cole Porter---I watch it time and time again. It cleverly has young singers giving some very sympathetic interpretations of his music. Diana Krall,
Alanis Morissette (I love her "Lets do it") Sheryl Crow, Robbie Williams, Elvis Costello and some great "production" numbers.
Rattling on again, must stop

I have the DVD "DE-Lovely" & I saw the movie it was & still is marvelous.
Well I'm going to send MB a note with his birthday card & suggesr he & david listen to "LET ME LOVE YOU TONIGHT' sung by Nellie Lutcher
the worst that can happen is I'll get no reply or he will never record the song.
The song is really so beautiful & I can think of hundreds of standards I love to hear him sing. If only I could get him to my house for an evening lol
Must go , as my dogs need to be walked

I love your posts about the great songs with great lyrics. Also, I certainly
agree with you about Emily. I think she'll be known as one of the world's
great actors. Actually, she's pretty close to it right now. I maybe shouldn't
say this, but it's my opinion that Michael would not sing "Cry Me a River"
relating to Emily. I believe that he really respects her. Now (just my
thoughts) if I may mention, in a number of interviews over the years
he has told about how he was heartbroken when he was much younger
when a gal he loved (and wanted to marry) left him. Also, in interviews
he has said at times that the songs he sings relate to various life
experiences.
OK, I may be very wrong, but it does make sense to me.
One way or another, I'm sure the song will be fantastic done by Michael.
Take care,
Jo

Michael has always had his heart broken by ended relationships & he's never the one who ends them.
But I do think this song may be for all of those who he loved & left him brokenhearted.
we'll never know but this album is going to tear at oir hearts with love.
I can't wait to hear it.
I would love Michael to record "FALLING IN LOVE WITH LOVE" it's perfect for him ...here is tje opening lyric: :Falling in love with love , is falling for make believe. Falling in love with love is just for children in school"
Michael is in love with love as he has often said

Hi Jo, good to hear from you, hope all is well with you? I'm just now getting back into my stride from all the traumas of last year and as I now have a new computer and I am again feeling well, life is quite rosy!!!
Michael over here in the UK would top it all off nicely --thankyou ahem !!!!LOL.
I don't know how Betsy will get "Let me love you tonight" to MB. I have been trying for five years, I told Alan Chang about it (he and i used to have some good conversations about music after the various Shows) and as I said in a previous post, I even gave MB my only copy of Lutcher singing it.
As for all the others, it really is amazing how many really great Standards there are waiting out there to be sung by Michael---and don't we all have our favourites !!! I think he sometims must feel like a child in a sweetshop with all the choice there is.
Michael and this Forum have been very good to me in the main, only today here I am "talking" to you and Betsy and have already spoken to Mouse in Holland and to dear Loretta (she sounded fine, but Dean is I think worrying her)
I also spoke to Martha on Skype (she lives in taly i think??) she likes Peter Cincotti as well as MB
Well here I am rambling on again, must stop---but what about "My Foolish Heart" for Michael
