I sat at my computer this morning and saw that we'd lost a singer, 69. I clicked on the link to find out that it was Kenny Rankin. I feel a piece of my heart, where much of the music is stored died today.

Kenny was an amazingly talented singer, song write, guitarist, pianist. Truly, a multitalented performer. I have followed him since the 60's. His voice was a true instrument. For those of you who were privileged to have seen him perform live, you will understand that statement. For those of you who never got to see him perform, I can only tell you watching him was such a joy and a blessing to your ears. Al and I saw him the last time about 1 1/2 ago. There was a piano on the stage and 2 guitars. He walked out picked up a guitar, sat down and started what was to be one of the best nights of entertainment I've experienced.

I can't imagine never being able to see him perform again. Was intending to take my son and his wife the next time he was performing locally, as he lived in Redondo Beach, Ca., so he often performed in the L.A. area. Unfortunately that will never be. We have his CD's and his voice lives forever. But my heart is so heavy today in knowing that he has left this earth.

One more thing I want to say and that has to do with what he found out 3 weeks ago. He found out he had lung cancer. I believe he was a smoker for many, many years. There is no doubt, cigarettes will kill you eventually. So, please... those of you who smoke, think about this the next time you go to pick up a cigarette. Life is so very precious and it all goes so fast. It changes in an instant.
