I was glad to hear his named mentioned by Matt that he thought maybe Buble would be there for the standards. Wish they had done that! I think Jamie Fox is very, very talented but I don't think of standards when I think of him. I think the whole meaning of these beautiful old songs comes from Michael the best....

Well - I'll tell you one thing he isn't! He's NO Michael Bublé! Now I'm not a big Adam fan to begin with but after seeing him slaughter Feeling Good last night on American Idol - complete with a Michael Bublé Feeling Good backlit staircase entrance and sharp-looking designer Michael Bublé look-alike suit and tie - I just wanted to SCREAM!!
Please, PLEASE Adam! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER attempt anything even remotely like that again!
Although I have to admit - imitation IS the sincerest form of flattery! I just wished it had been one of the OTHER contestants imitating Michael! Anyone but Adam!
Ok - off my soap box now.
Hey - on a happier note - wasn't it cool when Matt Giraud mentioned Michael's name when he was guessing who might be the surprise mentor last night? Sure wish he had been! Then maybe he could have talked Adam out of butchering his song! Ha!
Sorry Adam! The stairs AND the song belong to Michael!!!

it was soo perfect and beautiful
as for Adam i love him but gosh i wish he had picked another song it was just too weird to hear it song differently
but i dont think he killed it he just really knows how to make songs into his own style which i think is totally cool
with that said GO KRIS ALLEN!!

Sorry to "butt in"... but we have a similar programme in Holland called the X-Factor....
And we have a male competitor who did "Feeling Good" as well (including the sliding thing
Michael does etc. etc....). Well, Feeling Good is, still, my favorite of all so I was sort of
saying NO NO NO: do not even TRY to do this.......
If I hear somebody else sing this, it is so clear to me, that the way in which Michael sings
it is so well-done and that his voice is so very "suitable" for this way of singing...
Oh, oh,.... I guess I get too excited now to explain what I mean.... but I feel you all
will understand what I mean.... So, please continue with the topic for American Idol....
Take care of yourself!

Haha! Yah, he got kicked off last night.
I was wondering if it was just me who noticed the major resemblance there. I thought it was pretty obvious, and I see it was, because other people thought he looked like Michael! =)
And D, WELL SAID. I completely agree with you. I was thinking the exact same thing. I was like really? Michael is the best young person to sing the music he sings if you ask me, because it just works. The music pumps through his veins. He knows it, and understands it better than anyone else of this generation. I even thought last night what if Michael pops out as a surprise guest? HAHA! =) I love Natalie Cole though-she's lovely. =) So it's all good, but it would have been nice to see Michael too. =)

OMG! I missed that! I tuned in and out of the show last night-I can't believe that. I guess the AI people told him to do it because of the whole jazz night thing, and they were trying to get some inspiration I guess. Okay, I have to see this-I'm going to look it up.

I mean, okay. Adam isn't going to sing that song perfectly, because he's not a jazz singer, you know? Every week they try to get all of the singers to try and sing different types of music. I believe they do this to see just who has the widest range of styles of music that they can sing, and see who is truly the best singer (well, duh, haha!). So they aren't going to be perfect. But eh, they didn't have to make him a Michael look-a-like.
Michael owns that song. His name is freaking engraved in it. Whenever I listen to Michael's version, I just feel so alive! =) It's excellent! =) And I love it so much because Michael pours his heart and soul into it. =)
I don't really care for Adam. I thought he was alright in the start, but now his voice sort-of annoys me. In the beginning he seemed more humble or something, and would just sing. Now he seems to be getting a little over-confident, and he's always trying to go a little further than he actually can, and then he goes too far, which makes me like okay..yah, no.
And what annoys me is how everyone is always flipping out like OMG. ADAM. YOU. WERE. AMAZING.
I can't sing to save my life, but I don't know. I don't think Adam is THE BEST. I think he's alright, but he's not the best I've seen-Michael is the best I've seen.

Everyone who knows me knows I'm always in Michael's corner and have been for years. That doesn't mean I don't respect other artists. Adam may not be someone's favorite, but anyone with any sort of musical knowledge knows he didn't butcher the song. You may not like the arrangement, but his voice, talent and technique are impressive and when it comes to innovation and artistry, no one in that group comes even remotely close. You can't blame him for not being Michael; there's only one. But how can this music live on if no one can sing a song once Michael has recorded it? I'm particularly protective of Adam because I have a very strong sense of fair play and I am so disturbed by the homophobic attacks on Adam that have appeared in the media and online. It's horrific to me. I think this should be about talent and not decided by bigotry.
As for the show in general, I was disappointed to see Jamie Foxx as the host. Yes, he's talented but his music has no relationship with this genre. Of course, I was offended by his remarks about Miley Cyrus. I can't imagine a parent saying things like that about a teenage girl. He did ok, but would have obviously preferred to see Michael there. Or at least someone who has some relationship to this kind of music. I thought that everyone else was mostly ok considering this isn't their strength, so I expected more from Matt. I really don't like Danny and don't see a big mainstream career for him but was surprised little Allison was able to do as well as she did considering she's such a rocker girl. It'll be interesting to see if the most talented artist wins this year.

These are all very talented young people and it's a thrill to see the opportunity that American Idol has afforded so many who might never have a shot. When it comes down to the last few weeks, I find myself feeling it less important who actually "wins" the competition, but how much I'm enjoying watching the performances.
Hugs,

He has talent, a great set of pipes...no question about that.., but to me every presentation of his is not about the lyrics, or music...ITS ABOUT HIMSELF!! what can I do to shock people...thats good if its once, twice but he has turn it to a point that to me is overbearing...quite annoying...give me a singer with less power but with more capability to TELL A STORY, TO TAKE HOLD OF MY SENSES AND EMOTIONS AND AM THERE. Comes to mind, as an example...Charles Azanavour (probably spell it wrong, sorry) not a voice from out of this world but man, he could deliver emotions. Plus, I know many are going to hate me for what am going to say...HE HAS TO STOP THE ELVIS THING, ARGGGGGG. Elvis not my cup of tea! Someone said...he is the kind of artist that you love him or hate him...me am indiferent...and thats a lot to say. Am not a trained musician but I go with what I hear, see and what really moves me...thats why I like MB...everyone here knows that I WAS A ROCKER, AM A ROCKER AND WILL DIE A ROCKER...now if you want to hear someone give a truly meaningful screach, hahahahha...try Axel Rose
Another thing...Adam is a polished, season performer...and if I compare him to the others well the others have gone on to better themselves and have grown a lot...its not Adams fault by all means...its what it is...
About Jamie Fox...no problem with me that he was the one chosen to be a mentor...he is a trained musician and no matter what genre...he knows what he is talking about. Was I wishing it to be MB...of course!! plus for what its worth I find that at last a mentor who knew what he was talking about, specially pin pointing to the guys and gal what they needed to hear at that moment...this with my utmost respect to the others.
I truly wish that Adam wins...sometimes its best not to win...right Daughtry? I see a bright future for Kris and the rocker girl (raw talent at its best) and please if I see another comparison with Danny and the guy of Soul Patrol (arggggggggg) am going to go bonkers (none of the previous post have said this but on other sites they have compared them).
Love you all...and its nice to be so different...these are the things that make the world go round and life interesting, if we are all on the same page...uhhhh it would be boring.,

Very well said, Vegi, as usual. Your understanding of the music world always amazes me.
I was disappointed to see Jamie Fox as the mentor even though he does have a good grasp of music. Of course, Michael would have been a good choice, but who I was hoping for was TONY BENNETT. Now he is the godfather of what a mentor could have been for AI. He lived during "The Rat Pack" era and probably attended some of the shows. He KNEW the Rat Pack members and would have been a wonderful link to that period in musical history and it was truly 'musical history.'
I think they used Jamie because he's coming off a few good films, (RAY, Dream Girls and The Soloist) and he's promoting his new album). Also, I think AI was looking for more ratings with Jamie. Love Jamie, but oh, I wanted Tony to be there instead.
I also felt that those 5 contestants didn't do much homework for the songs they chose. Most of the song choices sounded like they went out and bought a few Buble CD's and used what they could use. Adam's choice "Feeling Good" is a song I don't EVER remember any of the Rat Pack ever singing...Am I mistaken? I was really looking for an evening of great nostalgic songs from that genre and I think only Allison came through. She brought me to tears with her choice. Would have been nice to show a clip or two of The Rat Pack in Vegas but that probably would have been difficult for copyright issues. It would have been a real treat for those not familiar with that era in Las Vegas. Maybe even a little background into how the Rat Pack was started, got their name or something. I'm sure many of the TV viewers had no idea what the "Rat Pack" even meant.
As far as who's the "best", I still think Adam has the voice and stage presence to pull it off. I'd pay to see him and I'd pay big bucks. I'm starting to really like Gokey and really LOVE Allison. She's got a little Janis Joplin and Melissa Etheridge. A true rocker and she just turned 17!!!! Amazing talent she has.
Just for the record, the Rat Pack members were: FRANK SINATRA, DEAN MARTIN, SAMMY DAVIS, JR. PETER LAWFORD, AND JOEY BISHOP...AND YES, THEY ARE ALL DEAD but they influenced many generations of music lovers for decades and still will, especially Frank Sinatra. Chairman of the Board is his title that is well deserved.
All said, I'm still rooting for Adam Lambert and the Elvis thing doesn't bother me at all. I LOVED Elvis and think Adam has that "IT" quality that just a few great entertainers have had. I think the 5 remaining contestants are probably the best finalists that AI has had. I like them all but my top two are still Adam and Allison. I wish them all great success and look forward to this week's "ROCK 'n ROLL" theme...one of my favorites too...

Was very disappointed that Allison was knocked off. She's so much better than Danny and Chris. If she can get dumped then I'm hoping that Adam doesn't get dumped next week. I can imagine Allison and Adam doing a tour together. They are fantastic rockers!!
Does anyone know the theme for next week? I don't think anyone is 'safe' anymore...talented or not. Very sad...
