The vocals make this song. My daughter (she's 13) loves Michael but hates this song because it does condone cheating. I tell her it's actually a young man who works at the cafe and is in love with a married woman who frequents there but doesn't really know he exists, it's a fantasy song. Or maybe it's Mr. Jones ... She rolls her eyes.

I was 12 and in 6th grade when the original came out and still have my 45 of it. Interestingly enough I never gave it a thought as to it's meaning. It was on the heels of The Graduate and that whole time period and it was just a song. My 6th grade core teacher's name was Mrs. Jones and the class played this song for her on our last day of class. Mrs. Jones had a whole different meaning for us. I am so extremely glad that my 15 year old nieces are becoming interested in music their grandmother listened to. If it takes Michael to introduce them to a whole new world of music then so be it. I fell in love with Frank Sinatra as a young girl and never quite understood my mom's screaming teeny bopper days until my generation gained their own musicians to scream and swoon over. In two months, my mother (82), myself (47) and twin nieces (15) will have girls night out taking in Michael's concert. I can not think of a better girls night out especially since it was the girls who expressed wanting to go.

As you say I assume from the words of the song that indicates a married man and married woman meeting up. JPenn I like your version though!

Funny this songs meaning should come up in conversation as some of the lady's at work were discussing fantasy's lately (not me though lol) and one of them mentioned that her hubby and her get dressed up meet up at times and pretend they dont know each other then go off somewhere to a hotel. So kind of gets you thinking about the whole 'she has her obligations and I have mine' bit.
"Somewhere there is someone
who dreams of your smile.
Who finds in your presence
that life is worthwhile.
So when you are lonely,
remember its true,
that somebody somewhere
is thinking of You!"

Idk I guess I always thought of it as a young bachelor and a married woman. I think it was because he calls her Mrs. Jones which is so formal and usually when two people are the same age they call each other by their first names. I thought that was a reference to her age and her being older but you guys are probably right. When he said "she got her own obilgations and so do I" I always thought maybe he meant moral obilgation or something. I guess we'll never know... :)

I think this song was originally called Me and Mrs Tarley, she of course had her own obligations but immediately dropped them when she met the young Mr Buble in the café while the jukebox played their favorite song..........obviously all names have been changed to protect their privacy and thats why it was changed to Me and Mrs Jones.........SO now you know !!!!!!!

Love Mrs Tarley
