Hey Bran!
You use this topic the right way! It is supposed to be a topic where you can light your heart, and there you go! I think that being able to tell someone about a horrible day can help you overcome it and leave it behind you.

I’ve learned about panic attacks and it seems really hard when you suffer from such a condition. Hearing how it affects your life makes me even more realise that not only physical things can make your life miserable.
I hope you’ve rested a bit, that you’ve been able to sleep last night and that you’re ok now.
The med thing sounds like a reeeeeeeally weird experience.
I mean, I’ve heard that meds for malaria prevention can make you hallucinate, but things for your tummy? What was in them?! (sorry if I’m too curious, it’s, how do you say this, a professional habit to be curious about med stuff? Am I saying this right? =D)

And serious, if anybody has ever any question about medical stuff, you can always ask me, I mean, some of those docs out there have never learned to communicate properly. My boyfriend has a profession that has NOTHING to do with medicine whatsoever so I’m used to explain things in a ‘’normal’’ language =D

And dannii, I don't think it's sad that you've found most of your friends here! I think it's wonderful! This place makes me happy too!

So sorry to hear about your day Bran!

I had a stretch of panic attacks too. But it my case it's hereditary. I also have palpitations. Passed down from my great- grandmother to my grandfather, to my mother, to me!

Hope you're better now.

Lily, I would go out on the town now and then, but the problem is see, my best friend died 15 years ago next January and all my other friends live far away. It's no fun going out alone. But I'm used to that by now.

Thanks, Dannii! I feel much better today. Today was just a very bad day. I'm glad you have never had a panic attack, and I hope you never have to experience one either. =[
Thank you! I'm on a medicine right now that's working very nicely. =] Things are slowly getting sorted and all. =D
Aww, no. I found some really great friends on here too! It's not sad at all. Sometimes the people you need in your life are going to be found all over-not just in your neighborhood, you know? =D
We are all alike, I think. You all are very sweet, and this is the start of new friendships! =]

Hey Lily! =D
Aww, thanks! It felt very good to get on here, and just let it all out. I felt much more at ease after that. =D I'm big on journaling and blogging, and it helps just to get it all out. =] You feel more relaxed, and it's easier to go about your day. And you have a clear mind. =D

Yes, I'm leaving yesterday behind me. Can't go back and change it, so why let it keep me down? =] ;]

Oh, yes, I've been having panic attacks since I was about 13-14 (I'm 17 now)....so it's been a while. The panic attacks didn't interrupt my daily life until two and 1/2 years ago. It's a daily struggle. And it's so severe that it's just classified as a disorder. There's no cure, so I have to learn to cope. And that I am doing. And it's getting easier everyday. ;] I've never had to deal with something so horrible before. I've seen a whole different side of my life, and never thought that I personally would end up suffering as much as I've been. Like I've said, I've been the witness, and the victim of anxiety, and I know that it truly is something that exists. Like you said, "Hearing how it affects your life makes me even more realise that not only physical things can make your life miserable" - yes, that's true. And I've even been discriminated against for having this issue. People are often close-minded, and if they don't see a cast on your leg, or a patch on your eye, they just sometimes can't believe that you have a health problem.

lol! No, you're not too curious at all! It's completely fine. =D I think it was simply a high dosage that made me loopy. lol. See, I rarely take medication. I don't even take things as simple as tylenol. If I do it's very rare. So it was already a high dosage that the doctor gave me (because my stomach isn't well), and I don't take meds. that often - I think it's a tolerance thing. Does that make sense? lol. Sorry-I've before...I can't explain things well.

Cool, I can ask medical questions! LOL! ;]

Thank you again! I am feeling much better. ;]

Hugs!

Oh, really? So we're kinda on the same level, huh? =]
I inherited my situation too. Everyone on my Mom's side are very nervous people. Don't know why, they just are. My doctor said I inherited my condition from my Mom's side. And later in life when I have children, they'll most likely have anxiety issues too. Hope not, but with the issue of genetics in mind, they'll be at least 50% susceptible.
Hmm, you have palpitations too? That's odd-so do I. Do you have just palpitations, or do you have something more like arrhythmia? My Mom has that. =[

I'm sorry about your friend. =[

We can all go out on the town with you! =D lol! We're all your support, and we're here to have fun too! =D

God Bran, it seems like a really difficult condition to cope with. I mean, I’ve read reports of people suffering from it, but it’s totally different when someone real talks about it. I’m glad you’ve sort of found a way to get on with life as it comes, despite that disorder =D I completely understand what you mean when you say that people never truly understand a disease if it’s in your head. I’ve suffered from anorexia when I was 16 and I lost most of my friends because of it. You can’t say to somebody who’s depressed or has panic attacks that they shouldn’t exaggerate, but unfortunately, a lot of people do =s
SO don’t you worry, you’ll never hear me telling you to clear your mind, I know what it is to have something people can’t see and therefore can’t understand!!!
My mom always used to say to me, ‘’you had better been off with cancer; people would’ve been a lot more compassionate and then you had had something to talk about when you had overcome it, now you have had a huge mental struggle but you can never ever tell anyone, because they won’t understand’’. And it’s true.
(sorry for everyone who has had cancer, I’m not saying it’s less worse, but when it comes down to compassion, it’s totally different than when you have a psychic disorder =))

I know Tylenol, it’s called Dafalgan over here and there’s paracetamol in it, completely harmless in small doses =) But you mean you just got a stronger pain killer? Then I know some things that can give you hallucinations, but I mean, it’s really rare to hallucinate from meds (except the anti malaria stuff, lariam). (ok, you can hallucinate from drugs, but then it would be on purpose)
Weird ihi =D

Rtammpg, Sorry to hear about your friend =(
Like bran said, we should all go out together :D that might be difficult for her as she lives in England, but nice try bran!! =D
It’s a coincidence that you both suffer from panic disorders.
I bet it’s easier to talk about it on a board than to real people! That’s what this board is all about, right?

Then my day :D
It was boring. I’ve been to class and I’ve studied. 3 more weeks till ‘’BLOK’’ (study-time before big exams, is there even an English word for this?! =D) I’m getting more nervous every day. Gonna need lots of support the next two months =s

PS. How do you do these ‘’quote’’ things =D

Well, is has been pretty difficult. I like to tell people about it, and spread the knowledge of this disorder. Oh, geez. I'm so sorry to hear about you with your anorexia. Now that is something that I don't understand like you do, but I have learned about it, and the reasoning for it. I hope you are doing much better now. ;] I'm sure that I sound so ridiculous, and I also sound like I exaggerate all the time. That is because of my disorder. Everything is bigger in my head than it is to someone who looks at me. If someone yells at someone, they might say, "Oh shut up!" But if someone yelled at me, it would affect me in a totally different way. I am a sensitive person, but this disorder has made me more sensitive, because of my easily disturbed nerves. Make sense? lollollollol

Oh, I completely unerstand that little saying of your Mom's. It is so true. I discussed something very similar with my doctor. People are exactly like that, and they are more compassionate about things they are familiar with. Even if someone said they have PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder), people would be more compassionate. An illness that is so similar to mine, and yet people don't understand me.

Oh, yah, I know! Heehee! Tylenol is completely harmless. No, I don't mean a stronger painkiller-I just don't take any kind of medicine at all usually. Very rarely do I take anything. I'm just saying that I don't believe I have a very strong tolerance to medicine, so when I take anything, it really affects me. On top of that, the medicine I took was a stronger dose, because my stomach was really messed up. So it REALLY affected me. lol! But on Sunday night, I had a panic attack, and then I was finally comfortable enough to go to sleep at like 3:30 in the morning. I was already exhausted from the panic attack, and then on top of that, it was 3:30 in the morning, so I mean, maybe I was exhausted, and that's why I was loopy. My doctors said most likely it was just the medicine that I took though. lol!

Well, my Mom has taken an antibiotic (a very strong one) that she was given years ago, and it did the same thing. It made her really loopy and stuff. I dunno-maybe it's just my family, and we're all not able to handle meds. that well. Haha!

Well, whatever happened, I'm fine now. LOL!

lol! Hey, I did try! We can all go out virtually, though. lol!

It is much easier to talk about all this on the board. Talking about it to people in real life is hard-people look at you like:  ....lol. They don't understand. Here it's much easier to find fellow sufferers, as I have with rtammgp.

Oh, Lily-good luck with your exams!

We'll support you! =D

And I think I really understand the disorder, y’know. I’m a little hypersensitive and I can imagine how it would be if it were worse, and I guess that would make your panic disorder. No fun at all! But we’re all here for you in case you have another bad day, girl! B)

Exams * sighs * it’s always like entering a cave and not coming out of it for two months. I hate it. It makes me depressed, lose weight, it gives me spots… not the most happy time of the year =P

NOTE: if you feel the need to correct my english, feel free! It would be really nice to learn from mistakes =D You can send it in a PM or just post here, but maybe that would be a bit emberrassing =p

Thank you!

Hugs!

You started getting them early. I didn't really get any palpitations till I was 18. During my final year in school, the fear of failing, the stress that went along with it. I had palpitaions, morning, noon and night. Because they didn't go away I started to panic and they really became panic attacks too on top of the palpitations because I was so convinced there was something wrong with my heart and I very simply was scared! I had that for more then a year. Imagine walking around like that for more then a year. I could hardly eat, couldn't sleep, I felt terrible. My knees were all shakey, couldn't stay still for a second. My GP put me on a very very mild seditive. I had to take that for a week. And for five blissful years I managed. I still had some palpitations, but nothing major and no more panic attacks, because I knew there was nothing wrong with my heart.
Then it happened again. This time I didn't wait so long to see my GP. He gave me xanax, the mildest. Again after that I was fine for a while. Then one night it became so bad we had to call a doctor on call. He adivsed me to take regular medication for it. But because I'm still young I don't qualify for the medication my GP prescribed my grandfather. My grandfather had these palpitations every single day. So, I take something for it ever day too.
I have to because since 2001, right after I got very sick; worst cough and cold I ever had, the meds for my cold and cough gave me more palpitations and then I had them 3 years even with the medication for it. Now, I've been building down from the medication, because there were so bad I had to take 0.75 mg of xanax everyday. But that's getting better and I'm building down now. I don't have panic attacks anymore. Thank God! But I do know what you mean.

I was against medication at first too, I sure put it off as long as I could. I'm not one to take medicine soon, but sometimes you have no other choice.

No, I don't have arrhythmia. These palpitations are quite enough, thanks! ;)
I'm the nervous type too, can't drink coffee because of it.

Thanks, but there's nothing you could do about it.

If I'm ever in your neighboughhood we could go out!

I'm good at one quote, but never got the hang of adding more quotes!
"Hey, no, I'm here to stay!"

I just wrote a long post but it just won't be posted. So forgive me, I'll post in small posts. One at a time.

I never got the hang of more than one quote in a post either.

I'll try again later.

Oh, now I see it did get posted! What's with the "page is not available" sign then!!!

I'm sorry to hear that you suffered from anorexia! You're right, it's something most people can't understand because it's etched in your head. That must have been a tying time for you. Glad to see you beat it.

Thanks! Nothing you can do. I normally don't tell anyone abut my palpitations, not onlineor off line. Because I know most people don't understand. But spilling it out now and then makes me feel lighter.

Yeah, revision time is coming. Don't get nervous, I know what it can lead to, just do your best. All anyone can do.

My day?
I got mad at the postal office today. I sent this Christmas card right. The same kind I sent last year and it was just within standard format. Last week I sent another card like that and I paid a standard price. Today I go and post the same card and suddenly it's five times the amount I paid last year!!! What the *****! I mean, how can it be a standard price all the other times and now it went up....five times! I was really¨**** off and told the man what I paid last week, you know what he said? "You were lucky"! I call it injust!
I swear if this happens again next week the postal office in Leuven will suddenly become very small! So Lily if you hear someone screaming, it'll be me!
"Hey, no, I'm here to stay!"

A lot of people here speak very good english! A++! ;]

Oh, geez, I'm so sorry that you have dealt with all of that. Some of that I can definitely relate to. I only get palpitations here and there. They're mostly from my panic attacks though.

I can't relate to these everyday palpitations though. It seems like such a difficult thing to deal with! What causes this exactly, do you know? I know you inherited this, but where does the actual condition come from, I wonder....?

That's good that you don't have arrhythmia. ;] I thought maybe it was something similar, cause I can relate, but I can't relate that closely either, cause I can't fully understand what you've had, cause I haven't had anything that frequent or severe before. But I can't imagine what that must be like. I'm sorry. D=

I'm glad to hear that you don't have panic attacks anymore! ;] That's great!

Yah, I think I may have to take something for my nerves too. I was prescribed xanax the other day. I've been given many nerve pills, but I just refuse to take them. One, because I have panic disorder, and I'm afraid to take medicines (very normal thing that people like me have), and two, because I don't like that sedated feeling. I dunno. lol! I guess it's better than being all hyper and crazy though. lol. I'm starting to warm up to the idea of taking a nerve med though, which is a huge step forward for me. ;]

Sometimes there really is no other choice, and you just have to take something. You are very right.

lol! More than one quote - very simple! Just read where the new quote begins, and answer each one! Don't know if that made sense....? lol!

And that reminds me....Lily, I forgot-I was going to answer your question on how to quote people....all you do is go to whatever you want to quote, and then look at the bottom of that post....you should see a button at the bottom right of the person's post that says "quote" and then something else (can't remember....lol)....click on "quote" and then scroll down to either the top or the bottom, and click "add reply"....if you want to quote more than one person, go through and click the quote button under everyone that you want to quote. Then reply! ;) Hope I helped!

I'm glad to hear that you're better now! ;]

Hahahaha, yes, I'm a difficult paitient! lol! Actually, I can really be sometimes....lollollollol
Aww, thanks! I'm so happy here. I don't know about you guys, but when I log on, I feel happy, and I feel kinda like I'm coming to a little party. lol! Virtual party, that is.... lol! =D
You guys are a very good support group!

Geez! Don't get too stressed, okay? D=
We're all here to make you happy. lol!
We'll keep sending you Michael pictures....;]

By the way, your english. No need to get embarassed by what I have to say....it's good, so I won't have to send a message. It's great! Not one mistake! In fact, you're so good that I didn't even realize you were from Belgium, until you said so (and when I saw it under your avatar). I know it says where you're from under your little ava, but I hadn't looked. Then I saw you were from Belgium, and I was like, HUH? WOW, she speaks good english!

A lot of people here speak very good english! A++! ;]

I WILL get that pug! I WILL!! some day!!! =D
I feel happy, too when I log on. =) It's like talking to people who really really listen. It's amazing what a decent 'conversation' can do with you =D
WHOHOW, are you serious about my English =D No way! I mean, I've been talking to May A over MSN the other day and I was totally messing up =D Definitely NOT good at instant writing =D I speak better than I write, that's for sure. I've once had this scottish girl coming up to me to ask me WHERE THE HELL I HAD LEARNED TO CHATTER LIKE THAT IN A LANGUAGE THAT WASN'T MY OWN, hahaha =D I'm a diesel, I start slow, but once I've started, there's no stopping me =D

[font="Comic Sans MS"]You're so sweet! It's nice to know everybody is there for each other! =D
OMG and you too. =D Seriously, I'm so flattered =D It's nice to know a judgement of a native speaker!!

Now, pay more attention you two, because I definitely make mistakes =D =P

MY day:
Somebody made me a compliment!!!!
Two boys who were sitting next to me were gossiping about a girl who was according to them self-centred and arrogant. They didn’t see any reason for her to be like that because they thought she was plain ugly =D Then they were referring to another girl who was also self-centred, but pretty so the self-centeredness seemed justified to them (boys =P) I said that it wasn’t fair they were judging people according to their looks, and that it sometimes seems that pretty girls get everything done; when you’re pretty you can always take advantage of it, especially during oral exams. One of the boys looked at me and said: ‘’Oh Nathalie, so there is absolutely no problem for you there’’ =D It made me happy =D
And then when I logged on, of course you guys saying my English isn't as bad as I thought it was! Well, you made my day! =D You gotta know I've taken an English test a couple of weeks ago and everybody seemed to be better at it than me =S But the questions were multiple choice questions, and I really suck at those, but still, it wasn't a nice confrontation =s
